"The Story of Creation"
From The Book of Genesis
Chapter I, Verses 1-31This is the story of the beginning of the
world. Before there was anything, there
was only vapor and shapeless matter.
There was no world, no heaven, no stars,
no sun, no moon, no darkness, no light,
no water, no land, no fish, no animals, no birds, and no
people. The only thing was God, who was always there.
Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was.
God was very pleased with the light. He made it
separate from the darkness and that made the very first
day. Then God said, "Let the vapors make the sky above
and the oceans below," and it was so. This was the second day.
day. Then God said, "Let the water be gathered together so that dry
land will appear." and it did. God called the water the "seas"
and he called the land the "earth." He was very pleased.God then said, "Let grass and plants grow on the
earth and let there be seeds in the plants so other plants
and fruits will come forth," and it happened. This all took
place on the third day.Next, God wanted to create a way to tell the days
from the nights and all the seasons of the year. He made a
huge, bright light for the day which he called the sun. He
made a smaller light for the night which he called the
moon. Then he scattered stars through the heavens to help
light the world. He was pleased. This was the fourth day.
Then God said, "Let the water be filled with fish,
giant sea creatures and other life."Then God said, "Let the skies be filled with all
kinds of birds," and it was so. God was pleased and he
blessed all of the new fish and birds. He told all of the
creatures, "Multiply and fill the earth." This ended the
fifth day. Finally, on the sixth day, God said, "Let us make a
man who looks just like his Maker," and he did. He made
a man and he made a woman. He blessed them both and
said to them, "Multiply and fill the earth, because you are
the masters of all of the animals, and birds and fish. I
have given you seed-bearing plants and fruit trees all over
the earth for you to eat and the grass and plants for the
animals."
At the end of this sixth day God looked at
everything he had created and saw that it was excellent.
He was very pleased.
The next day, God had finished His great job of
creating the world, so He blessed the seventh day and
made it holy. This was how God made the world in just six days.
