"Bedtime Bible Stories"
Doubting Thomas
From the Book of John,
Chapter 20, Verses 24-29One of the disciples, who kept hearing the stories of Jesus' return from the dead was finding them all very hard to believe. "I can't believe this," he said as the disciples met together in the room where they were staying. "And I won't believe it unless I can see the wounds in his hands and feet and side. That's the only why I'll be convinced he really has returned from the dead."
A little later, while they were all still discussing the amazing things that happened, Jesus himself was suddenly with them. No one saw him come in, but he was there! They were so stunned and surprised they couldn't say a word.
Jesus walked over to Thomas and held out his hand. "Look," he said. "Put your finger in my hand. Touch the wound on my side. Don't doubt me any more. Believe in me."
And Thomas touched the wounds in Jesus' hands and side. He dropped to his knees in front of Jesus and said, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said, "You are blessed because you have seen me and believe, Thomas. Imagine how blessed people will be if they haven't seen me, but they still believe!"
Thomas never doubted the Lord again. But even today, if a person has to be shown something before they will believe in it, they are called "Doubting Thomases."
