Mary and the Gardener
From the Book of John,
Chapter 20, Verses 10-18Later, Mary Magdalene returned to the tomb. She stood there in the garden outside. She was crying. She did not know what to do. She had never felt more alone in all her life.
As she stood there, she heard someone walk up behind her. The person asked her, "Why are you crying? Are you looking for someone?"
Mary thought it was a gardener. She said, "Sir, they have taken away the body of my Lord, Jesus. If you know where they have taken it, please tell me!"
Then the man said, "Mary."
Mary turned around and saw that it was Jesus himself.
"Master!" she exclaimed.
"Don't touch me," Jesus said, "because I haven't risen to meet my Father yet. I want you to go find my disciples and give them a message. Tell them I am going to go to my Father the Lord God who is your Father, their Father and your God and their God."
Mary ran from the garden and hurried to the room where the disciples were staying. She rushed in and said, "Jesus is alive! I have seen him!"
Then she gave the the message Jesus had given her. The diciples wanted to believe her, but it was very hard for them.
