"Bedtime Bible Stories"

From the Book of Luke,
Chapter 24, Verses 42-49

As Jesus stood with them, the disciples were still not sure of how to react. Here was Jesus standing before them, alive and well, even though they had all seen him die on the cross iust a few davs earlier. He wasn't a ghost or a spirit of any kind. He had shown his wounds to Thomas. He was living flesh and blood.

He asked them, "Is there anything to eat?"

Someone handed him a slice of broiled fish which he ate. They watched him, more convinced it was really him, since they didn't think a ghost or spirit could eat.

When he had finished eating he looked around at them and said, "When I was traveling with you before, don't you remember how I told you that everything about me had already been written down by Moses, the prophets and in the Psalms? Not only that, but all of those prophecies had to come true so people would believe in the Messiah."

Then, Jesus opened the minds of his eleven remaining disciples. All at once, they were able to understand every word of all the Scriptures.

"Yes," Jesus told them, "it was written long ago that the Messiah must suffer and die and come back to life again after three days. This had to be done to show people that they will live forever if they believe in me and believe my words about God. The message you must take from Jerusalem and spread it around the world is: Anyone who turns to me will have all of their sins forgiven?

"You have seen the prophecies of the Scriptures come true."

The disciples were suddenly alone, but they understood every word Jesus had said, and every word they'd ever read in the Scriptures.
